Here’s the prompt for the 2018-19 VFW Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest

Set a day where the work will really begin. Why I Honor the American Flag. Brainstorm some possible angles for the essay.
Essays must be written exclusively for this competition. Knowledge of the theme is worth 30 points, theme development is worth 35 points, and clarity of ideas is worth 35 points. Your kids will get creative with the topic, so allow them that freedom to interpret the prompt how they see fit.

Contestants are allowed to enter only once one Post competition. Knowledge of the theme is worth 30 points. This is usually one month before the due date. Check with your local chapter to learn how they are able to support your students. The VFW retains non-exclusive rights to use the student’s essay and likeness in the promotion and execution of the organization’s programs and activities.

VFW Post – Scholarships – Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest
All scholarships are awarded as savings bonds. Patriot’s pen gives 6th, 7th and 8th grade students the opportunity to express their exsay on a patriotic theme and improve their writing skills, while they compete for worthwhile awards and prizes.
All essays should be typewritten in English with no color or graphics and cannot be less than words or greater then words in length. Demonstrate you have researched the issue extensively.
